The Take-Away Garden - le Jardin à Emporter Festival International des Jardins, Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, France.
The concept of the 'take-away garden or le jardin à emporter' is a step towards encouraging responsibility and respect for our environment, to encourage the rich bio-diversity of the natural world. With the take-away garden everyone has the opportunity to look after their own personal micro-habitat, these portable bags can be placed on a patio, roof terrace, car park, urban waste ground, suburban garden or allotment. Each cubic metre bag, normally used for the delivery of sand, gravel and soil, contains a tree which can support a small eco-system. The bags are delivered to the site in a van, which once there will undergo a transformation by the addition of artwork to become a focal point for inspiration and commentary on bio-diversity.The van is parked in an area of natural planting which will become denser as the festival progresses. Each bag will be an artwork and will support one of six different habitats, forest, orchard, maritime heath, woodland edge, hedgerow or marsh - les habitats dans un sac.
